History Of America's National Parks

This video chronicles the history of the early preservation movement, which culminated in the National Park System. With its genesis in Yosemite and Yellowstone, the National Park Service, created in 1916, evolved through periods of conflict, expansion, the great depression and WWII to become America's greatest legacy. The achievements of prominent leaders such as National Park directors Stephen T. Mather, Horace M. Albright and conservationists George Catlin, John Muir,, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR are told. Inside you'll discover rare historic footage, vintage park scenes from the early 1900's, works by famous artists and classic national park posters from the golden era of the 1930's. This important story of safeguarding our natural and cultural heritage and National Park ideals, must be preserved, cherished and passed on to future generations.
